Rangers Designate Yorvit Torrealba For Assignment

As expected, the Texas Rangers have decided to designate catcher Yorvit Torrealba for assignment, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post (Sulia Link).

Source says that Yorvit Torrealba has been designated for assignment. Love to see him with Rockies. But Washington would make more sense. Plays with passion

With the team's acquisition of catcher Geovany Sotto from the Chicago Cubs, Torrealba became expendable for the club and it simply doesn't make sense for any team to carry three catchers.

The Rangers will have ten days to find a taker for Torrealba and I would expect a deal to get done. Numerous clubs could use a backup catcher and the 34-year-old will likely have a cheap price tag.

The veteran catcher has batted .236/.302/.342 in 182 plate appearances over 49 games this season. He will be a free-agent at season's end, but will first earn the remainder of his $3.25 million this season.
