Despite his recent issues, the Chicago Cubs continue to discuss right-hander Matt Garza with the Texas Rangers and two other teams, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Heyman hints that the other two teams could be the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays:

The Cubs are discussing Matt Garza with the Rangers and two other teams, sources tell CBSSports.com.

The Rangers, who seek a starting pitcher after losing out on Zack Greinke, have tried for Garza before. The Reds are believed to have some interest, and the Jays have reportedly have talked to the Cubs, as well.

Heyman notes that the Cubs may decide to hold onto Garza as he won’t reach free agency until after the 2013 season.

Garza was expected to be one of the high-profile arms available this summer, but he hasn’t started for the Cubs since his early exit on July 21 due to cramping. He could be ready to start again as soon as the end of this week, but the issues caused many to speculate he wouldn’t be traded before today’s deadline.
