Denard Span Rumors: Reds, Twins Discussing Span Trade

After missing out of outfielder Shane Victorino, the Cincinnati Reds are discussing Denard Span with the Minnesota Twins, according to Scott Miller of CBSSports.com:

Stymied in their effort to deal with the Phillies for Shane Victorino, the Reds are talking with the Twins about acquiring outfielder Denard Span, according to CBSSports.com sources.

The Reds have been tied to a leadoff hitter recently, and it’s been reported that the Twins are willing to move Span.

One of Miller’s sources said a Reds/Twins trade involving Span has a "50/50" chance of happening. The Twins are "desperate to re-stock their system with young starting pitching prospects."

On the season, Span, 28, has hit at a clip of .290/.356/.396 with three home runs, 32 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He’s been Minnesota’s primary lead-off hitter this year.

Miller notes that it’s unclear if the Reds are continuing to target Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre as a backup plan to Span.
