Royals Moves: Adcock, Coleman, Mazzaro, Maier

The Kansas City Royals have optioned right-hander Vin Mazzaro to Triple-A and designated outfielder Mitch Maier for assignment.

In corresponding roster moves, the Royals recalled right-handers Nate Adcock and Louis Coleman from Triple-A.

Mazzaro was optioned to Triple-A Omaha following his loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night. The 25-year-old allowed six runs on 13 hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work. On the season, Mazzaro maintained an ERA and WHIP of 5.70 and 1.700 with 6.0 SO/9 and 3.3 BB/9.

Maier, 30, appeared in 32 games for the Royals this season. Over his 64 at-bats, he only mustered a line of .172/.260/.313 with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs.

Adcock has made nine appearances, including two starts, for the Royals in 2012. Over his 26 innings, the 24-year-old has posted an ERA and WHIP of 3.12 and 1.577 with 4.5 SO/9 and 3.5 BB/9.

Coleman, 26, has logged 22 innings out of Kansas City’s bullpen this season. He’s maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.91 and 1.455 over his 17 appearances with 9.4 SO/9 and 5.3 BB/9.
