Schwinden actually started the season with the Mets, but he’s joined three other teams since returning to the club. New York designated him for assignment and he was claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays. The 25-year-old was once again DFA’d and eventually landed with the Cleveland Indians. The Indians handed Schwinden his third designation of the season.
The New York Yankees then claimed the right-hander, but they designated him this weekend in order to create a roster spot for recently-claimed outfielder Darnell McDonald.
Schwinden has only pitched for the Mets major league club this season, appearing solely with the Triple-A affiliates of the Blue Jays, Indians and Yankees. He will be joining the Mets Triple-A affiliate once again.
Over his 71 combined innings at Triple-A this season, Schwinden has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.31 and 1.366.
