The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder Alex Presley on the 7-day disabled list due a concussion, reports Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
In a corresponding roster move, the Pirates have called up infielder Jordy Mercer from Triple-A.
Presley’s move to the DL is retroactive to July 3, the day he was forced to exit the Pirates’ contest against the Houston Astros after diving for a ball in the outfield.
Over his 60 games and 215 at-bats for the Pirates this season, the 26-year-old has posted a line of .242/.276/.395 with 18 extra-base hits and 13 RBIs.
Mercer made his major league debut this season, appearing in five games for the Pirates. Over went 1-9 with two walks and three strikeouts.
The 25-year-old has spent most of the season with the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate. Over his 209 at-bats, Mercer has hit at a clip of .287/.357/.421 with four home runs, 14 doubles and 27 RBIs. He owns a career minor league OPS of .723.
