According to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, Pedroia will not require surgery and he is expected to return when he’s eligible, which is expected to be approximately July 19.
Pedroia hasn’t played since Tuesday, when he injured his thumb while attempting to make a diving catch. Bradford reports the new injury is different than the one that caused the 28-year-old to miss six games earlier in the season.
Pedroia started the season off well enough, but his production declined in May and especially June, when he only mustered a line of .194/.269/.269. On the season, Pedroia has hit at a clip of .266/.326/.400 with six home runs, 19 doubles and 33 RBIs. This is a far cry from Pedroia’s career marks of .301/.369/.475.
