Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports the Boston Red Sox are "likely" to acquire a pitcher in a trade this July, while the club could also be in position to trade an outfielder and/or backup catcher Kelly Shoppach.

Nor does the list include "Pitcher X" – the starting pitcher whom the Sox are likely to acquire in a trade, be it Cubs right-hander Matt Garza or some other upgrade.

So, the Sox could be in position to trade at least one outfielder, not to mention catcher Kelly Shoppach, who could be moved to clear a spot for Triple-A catcher Ryan Lavarnway.

Ryan Sweeney, Daniel Nava, Ryan Kalish and Scott Podsednik have had their names floated in trade rumors lately, though the Red Sox have said they are not interested in trading outfielder Cody Ross.

Rosenthal also notes that the Red Sox have no interest in trading right-hander Josh Beckett. While there was some talk of a possible deal involving Beckett earlier in the season, the club views the 32-year-old as part of their pitching solution.

In case you’re wondering, the Red Sox are not pondering a trade of right-hander Josh Beckett. They view him as part of the solution in an area — starting pitching — that they are trying to improve.
