The Philadelphia Phillies have designated veteran infielder Mike Fontenot for assignment, reports Scott Miller of CBSSports.com:

To replace Fontenot on their roster, the Phillies recalled infielder Michael Martinez from Triple-A.

Fontenot was released by the San Francisco Giants at the end of March and signed an agreement with the Phillies on April 13. The 32-year-old has appeared in 47 games for the Phillies, hitting .289/.343/.340 with three-extra base hits and 13 runs scored.

Fontenot owns a career line of .265/.332/.401 over seven major league seasons.

Martinez has appeared in 16 games for the Phillies this season, only mustering an OPS of .388 over 45 at-bats. The 29-year-old has spent a majority of the year in the minors, hitting .279/.336/.402 with nine extra-base hits and 17 RBIs.
