The move made room on the Braves’ roster for recently acquired left-hander Paul Maholm.
Jurrjens got off to a rough start to the season with the Braves, allowing 17 runs in 16 1/3 April innings. This earned him a trip to Triple-A, where he also struggled. Over 10 minor league starts spanning 57 1/3 innings, Jurrjens posted an ERA and WHIP of 5.18 and 1.430.
The 26-year-old was recalled in late June and went on to start six more games for the Braves before he was moved to the bullpen last week. On the year, he’s maintained an ERA and WHIP of 6.89 and 1.862 for the Braves.
The Braves acquired Maholm from the Chicago Cubs along with outfielder Reed Johnson in exchange for pitching prospects Arodys Vizcaino and Jaye Chapman.
