The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-hander Juan Abreu off of waivers from the Houston Astros, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports:

To make room on their roster for Abreu, the Blue Jays designated right-hander Scott Richmond for assignment.
The Astros designated Abreu for assignment earlier this week to make room on their roster for outfielder Brandon Barnes.
Abreu, 27, made his major league debut this season, appearing in seven games for the Astros. Over six and two-thirds innings pitched, he allowed two runs on six hits and three walks with twelve strikeouts.
Abreu also logged forty-five a two-thirds innings with Houston’s Triple-A affiliate, posting an ERA of 7.09 with 10.6 SO/9 and 6.7 BB/9. He owns a career ERA of 4.67 with 10.8 SO/9 and 5.6 BB/9 over seven seasons in the minors.
Richmond appeared in three games this season with the Blue Jays, allowing two runs over three innings. He also maintained an ERA of 5.89 over twenty-four appearances, including twenty-two starts, for the club’s Triple-A affiliate.
