Cincinnati Reds prospect Billy Hamilton could be a September call-up, reports Tom Groechen of the Cincinnati Inquirer.

Hamilton has 135 stolen bases this season between High-A and Double-A this season. Cincinnati's second-round pick in 2009, Hamilton is just 10 steals shy of Vince Coleman's minor league record, which was set in 1983. Reds manager Dusty Baker said Hamilton could "possibly" join the big club next month.

While his speed is off the charts, Hamilton has also had a good year at the plate. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .311/.409/.425. Here's what Baker had to say of his overall game:

"You’ve got to have a total game, which he has, and he’s chipping off the rough edges around his game."

Back in 2002, the (then) Anaheim Angels called up thier young speedster Chone Figgins in late August. He appeared in just 15 games, going 2-for-12 at the plate while stealing two bases on three attempts.

Despite the short track record and lack of success, the Angels kept Figgins on their playoff roster to use primarily as a pinch runner. They won the World Series that season.
