The Los Angeles Angels activated Scott Downs from the disabled list today and Jordan Walden could return tomorrow, reports Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.
"The Angels' bullpen, owner of the worst second-half ERA in the Majors, will get lefty Scott Downs back from a strained left shoulder on Saturday, with Steve Geltz optioned after Friday night's 12-3 loss to the Rays to create roster space. Walden, meanwhile, could follow on Sunday."
Downs has a 2.57 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 35 innings. The veteran lefty picked up nine saves in a brief stint as the Halos' closer. Last season, his first with the Angles, Downs had a 1.34 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 60 games.
Walden, the Angels' closer last season, has a 3.86 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 28 innings in 2012. The 24-year-old had 32 saves and a 2.98 ERA last season.
Gonzalez speculated that the team could send down either Hisanori Takahashi or Jason Isringhausen to make room for Walden, who is trying to come back from a strained biceps. Downs had a strained shoulder.
