The Oakland Athletics have acquired shortstop Stephen Drew from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league shortstop Sean Jamieson. The D'Backs announced the move on their official Twitter feed.

The Athletics were in on Drew and other notable shortstops, such as Hanley Ramirez, before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. But they didn't want to take back all of Ramirez's contract, so a deal did not get done there.

However, it appears the Athletics will be taking back the full contract here. Drew is owed the remainder of his $7.75 million this year and there is a $10 million mutual option for next year, which comes with a $1.35 million buyout.

Drew, 29, is batting a horrific .193/.290/.311 with 2 home runs in 155 plate appearances this year. Jamieson is a 23-year-old in the lower levels of the minor leagues. He was taken in the 17th round in the 2011 draft.
