Cliff Lee wasn’t the only Lee placed on waivers recently, as the Miami Marlins also exposed first baseman Carlos Lee this week, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

As the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approached, the Marlins were reportedly trying to unload Lee, the player they acquired from the Houston Astros not even a month prior. Miami thought they had a deal in place with the New York Yankees involving Lee, but the 36-year-old wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.
If true, this would have marked the second time El Caballo failed to agree to a potential trade. Before he became a Marlin, the Astros reportedly had a deal in place with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lee took his time deciding whether or not he’d veto the potential trade, and the Dodgers ended up rescinding their offer.
Lee is making $18.5 million this season, and he’s hit at a clip of .290/.353/.399 with seventeen doubles, six home runs and forty-three runs batted in.
