Nationals Designate Carlos Maldonado For Assignment

Presswire

In order to clear room on the team's 40-man roster for newly acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki, the Washington Nationals will designate catcher Carlos Maldonado for assignment, as reported by Amanda Comka of The Washington Times.

The Nationals will have a total of ten days to trade or release Maldonado, but the team will look into a minor league assignment that would keep the veteran in the organization.

The 33-year-old hasn't received much playing time in his career, and he played in just 4 games this season and didn't record a hit in any of his 9 plate appearances. He did walk twice, though, and struck out 4 times. He only has 74 career plate appearances scattered over the past several years, and owns a triple slash of .159/.260/.317.
