Even though rosters are expanding tomorrow, the Detroit Tigers have designated Jeff Baker for assignment and used the roster spot to recall Avisail Garcia from Class Double-A Erie, Tigers Director of Media Relations Brian Britten announced.

The move starts a ten day clock for the Tigers to trade, release or outright Baker to the minor leagues. But, because of the service time Baker has accumulated, he would need to approve any outright assignment to the minor leagues. So, there is a very real chance the team could be losing Baker.

The 31-year-old Baker began the season with the Cubs and ended up with the Tigers in a recent trade. Detroit didn't get quite what they were hoping for, as Baker batted just .200/.243/.257 in 37 plate appearances with the Tigers.
