The Arizona Diamondbacks aren't completely out of contention for a spot in the playoffs, but it isn't looking good. So it appears the team is getting a head start on moving on from a disappointing 2012 season and start shaping up their roster for 2013. Among players the team will need to make a decision on is right-handed reliever J.J. Putz, who has a club option for 2013 worth $6.5 million.
D'Backs GM Kevin Towers all but says the team will be exercising the club option on their closer for next season, according to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com, meaning Putz will be back for a third season. Towers added that price was no issue. With more than a month left in the season and reliever volatility, there is no rush for the D'Backs to commit right now.
