Rangers Designate Miguel De Los Santos For Assignment

To make room for all their September call ups, the Texas Rangers have designated left-handed pitcher Miguel De Los Santos for assignment and off the team's 40-man roster, as reported by T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. The Rangers will call up several players, including prospects Martin Perez and Leonys Martin.

The move starts a ten day clock for the Rangers to trade, release or outright the pitcher to the minor leagues. The last of the three is the most likely, considering the 24-year-old De Los Santos has spent his entire career with the Rangers minor league affiliates. He is currently pitching in Double-A for the second straight season, posting a 5.22 ERA and 2.06 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The club is also exploiting a loop hole in the rules for rosters expansions, writes Sullivan, by calling up Tyler Tufts. Tufts is on the disabled list after undergoing surgery earlier this year, but by calling him up to the big leagues the team can replace him with a player that would be eligible for the playoffs.
