The Toronto Blue Jays have designated right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez for assignment, which cleared a roster spot for the recall of right-handed pitcher Chad Jenkins, as reported by Barry Davis of Sportsnet. The Jays will have a ten-day window to trade or release Chavez, but could also explore the possibility of moving him to the minors.

Chavez was just recalled prior to Saturday's game, but the reliever gets designated for assignment after just one day. The 28-year-old tossed 21 1/3 innings for the team over a few stints for the Jays this year, posting a 8.44 ERA, 11.4 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9.
Drafted in the first-round by the Jays in the 2009 draft, Jenkins will be looking to make his MLB debut for the team. In 114 1/3 innings of work, the 24-year-old has posted a 4.96 ERA, 4.5 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.
