The Washington Nationals have claimed infielder Cesar Izturis off of waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the team. Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post broke the story:
The Nats have acquired Cesar Izturis from the Brewers, a source says. Mark DeRosa fighting a groin injury. Nats needed middle infield help.

In a related move, the team has placed Mark DeRosa on the 15-day Disabled List with a groin injury. As Kilgore notes, the Nationals needed infield depth with both Ian Desmond and DeRosa on the DL.
Izturis, 32, is in his twelfth season as a pro and the Nationals will make his eighth team. He was hitting .235/.248/.333 while playing all four infield positions for the Brewers in 2012, somewhat down from his career marks of .255/.294/.323.
He's due to make $875 thousand this season and will be a free agent heading into 2013.
