#Indians have claimed RHP Fabio Martinez off waivers from the LA Angels and have optioned him to Class A Carolina. 40-man is at 39 players.
The 22-year-old Martinez is coming off an injury plagued 2011 season that limited the right-hander to just two games all year. This season Martinez has been extremely erratic, posting a 10.72 ERA across 22 2/3 innings of work with peripherals of 9.1 K/9 and 12.7 BB/9.
Ben Badler of Baseball America offered some insight on the type of pitcher Martinez is:
Indians claimed Fabio Martinez on waivers from the Angels. Power fastball/slider combo, misses a lot of bats, misses K-zone just as often.
