The Houston Astros have called up outfielder Brandon Barnes from Triple-A for his major league debut, reports Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle:
The Astros have called up outfielder Brandon Barnes for his major league debut according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Levine notes that the Astros have not confirmed the promotion, and he expects a corresponding roster move to be announced prior to tonight’s game.
Barnes is a bit old to be making his major league debut. The 26-year-old was selected in the sixth round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Astros, and has spent the past eight seasons in their farm system.
Barnes began the year with the club’s Double-A affiliate, hitting .317/.377/.567 with twenty doubles and seven home runs over 164 at-bats. Following a promotion to Triple-A, Barnes hit .323/.383/.477 with nineteen doubles, one triple and five home runs. He has played primarily center field in the minors this season.
