Athletics Moves: Jemile Weeks, Daric Barton, Jesse Chavez

Presswire

The Oakland Athletics have recalled second baseman Jemile Weeks, first baseman Daric Barton and right-hander Jesse Chavez, reports Joe Stiglich of the Bay Area News Group:

After his impressive showing in 2011, Weeks started the year as the A’s regular second baseman. Unfortunately for the 25-year-old and Oakland, he wasn’t able to reproduce last season’s success. Over 437 at-bats for the A’s, he hit .220/.305/.302 with fourteen doubles, eight triples and two home runs.

Barton has appeared in 106 at-bats this season for the A’s, hitting .198/.325/.283 with six doubles and one home run. The 27-year-old has spent most of the season with Oakland’s Triple-A affiliate, hitting at a clip of .255/.411/.425.

Chavez began the season with the Toronto Blue Jays before being claimed off waivers by the A’s. He’s yet to make his major league debut with Oakland, as he’s spent time with their Triple-A affiliate. The 29-year-old has allowed two runs over ten innings pitched.
