While there was a report from Charlie Gasparino of FOX Business Network that the Boston Red Sox could potentially be for sale published earlier this morning, this rumors has been shot down by several members of the club’s front office, including president/CEO Larry Lucchino and owner John Henry.
Henry denied the report and said it is "completely without foundation." He added:
"Regarding unnamed sources: Any sale discussions that may have taken place were missing three key people — Larry [Lucchino], Tom [Werner] and me. The Sox and any of the other components of FSG are not for sale and will not be for the foreseeable future."
Lucchino called talk of the Red Sox being for sale "nonsense," and said he hopes to be with the team "for the foreseeable future."
In the initial report, Gasparino said a source told FOX Business Network that the Red Sox have "but quietly shopping the team to potential buyers."
