It was reported yesterday that the San Francisco Giants are expected to announce that they will not include suspended outfielder Melky Cabrera on their playoff roster. However, the Giants haven’t made an official decision, as manager Bruce Bochy indicated last evening that he’ll likely have an answer before the club heads to San Diego following tonight’s series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Cabrera was a force for the Giants prior to the 50-game suspension he received after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The 28-year-old hit .346/.390/.516 with 25 doubles, 10 triples and 11 home runs over 459 at-bats.
Still, the Giants have gone on to win 26 of their last 38 games since Cabrera’s ban. The slugger has already requested not to be taken into consideration for the National League batting title, but he did admin he was disappointed following yesterday’s news.
