The Seattle Mariners have designated outfielder Johermyn Chavez for assignment, reports Greg Johns of MLB.com:

Seattle DFA’d Chavez to make room on their forty-man roster for third baseman Luis Jimenez.

The Mariners acquired Chavez and Brandon League in the trade that sent Brandon Morrow to the Toronto Blue Jays. The 23-year-old has spent the past three seasons in the club’s farm system.

On the year, Chavez has hit .242/.345/.423 with sixteen doubles and ten home runs over 265 at-bats between Seattle’s rookie club and their Double-A affiliate. Over seven seasons in the minors, he’s hit .263/.341/.442.

The 30-year-old Jimenez has spent the season with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate. Over 471 at-bats, he’s hit .310/.394/.514 with thirty-two doubles and twenty home runs. He owns a career minor league line of .287/.371/.474 over eleven seasons.
