Ruiz has been out since the beginning of August while dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Prior to his activation, there was discussion that the 33-year-old would simply finish the regular season on the DL since the Phillies are not in the playoff hunt.
Instead, Ruiz will be able to continue what’s been an impressive 2012 campaign. Prior to the injury, he had put together a breakout season, hitting .335/.399/.559 with twenty-eight doubles and fourteen home runs.
Polanco’s availability has been limited for some time due to his back ailment, as the veteran has only registered five at-bats since August 23.
On the season, Polanco hit .257/.302/.327 over 303 at-bats with twelve doubles and two home runs for the Phillies. Though the club can exercise their portion of a $5.5 mutual option for the 2013 season, the 36-year-old has likely played his last game with Philadelphia.
