Giancarlo Stanton rumors: Mariners contact Marlins about availability

With 93 home runs in his first three Major League seasons, it's understandable why so many teams in the league are linked with some level of interest to Giancarlo Stanton, the young slugger of the Miami Marlins.

Unfortunately for the rest of the league, the Marlins insist he's not going anywhere. Still that didn't stop the Seattle Mariners from checking in on trade options recently, according to Jon Paul Morosi.

The Marlins have conducted the biggest fire sale this offseason -- and only one of several for the Marlins in recent decades -- when they sent players like Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle to the Toronto Blue Jays. The assumption is that a hitter like Stanton will prove too costly for the team in upcoming years, so it might be an ideal time to check in on such a rare asset.

Stanton has also made it clear that he is unhappy with the team. After a post on Twitter where he said he was "pissed off", Stanton went on to say, "This is the ‘winning philosophy?' Then to say it's not about money? What is the motivation. There comes a breaking point. I know how I feel. I can't imagine how the city and the fans feel."

If Stanton's response and looming price increase could combine with the right player package from another team -- i.e. the Mariners -- then perhaps a deal will get done. For the time being, it seems Stanton will endure a frustrating season in Miami.
