Justin Upton rumors: D-backs 'fine' with no trade

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers told Jon Heyman of CBS Sports that he won't be giving Justin Upton away for cheap and that he's not in a rush to move him. Towers said that Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick is "fine" with keeping all of their outfielders.

Heyman notes that Kendrick told him that he had a preference in moving Upton when the two talked earlier in the offseason, but he'll be leaving the call up to Towers.

One team that doesn't seem to be pursuing Upton is the New York Yankees. Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says that sources have told him the Yankees haven't picked up their pursuit since he was nearly dealt to the Mariners earlier in the week. Morosi suggested they move Curtis Granderson to the Mariners for prospects and use the haul to acquire Upton. Morosi points to the fact that the Yankees want to get under the $189 million tax threshold for 2014 as the reason for them not being interested in the outfielder.

Upton, 25, is under contract for three more seasons and $38.5 million. He has been the source of trade rumors all offseason. Upton is a career .278/.357/.457 hitter with 108 home runs over six seasons.
