The New York Mets have avoided arbitration with setup man Bobby Parnell, agreeing to a one-year, $1.7 million deal with the right-hander, reports Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger:

Parnell, 28, put together the best season of his career in 2012 as the Mets' setup man and some-time closer. The right-hander posted a 2.49 ERA and 8.0 K/9 in 68⅔ innings, racking up seven saves as well.
Frank Francisco is still penciled in as New York's closer for the time being, but if he continues struggle -- 5.53 ERA and 4.5 BB/9 in 2012 -- Parnell could find himself shutting the door for the Mets at some point this season.
Parnell just missed Super Two status last season, so this is his first year of arbitration eligibility. He will become a free agent following the 2015 season.
