Phillies rumors: Philadelphia 'seriously considering' Delmon Young

The Philadelphia Phillies are "seriously considering" signing free agent Delmon Young.

The Philadelphia Phillies are "seriously considering" signing free agent outfielder/designated hitter Delmon Young, according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly:

Sources tell CSNPhilly.com that the Phils are seriously considering signing free-agent Delmon Young.

Salisbury notes that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro did not deny the rumor, only stating that "we've kicked around a lot of stuff" and Young is "among" the options.

The team that eventually signs Young will also be bringing on his off-the-field issues. Amaro wouldn't address Young specifically, but he did note that while he'll have "reservations," he understands that the team has to "keep our minds open."

Young has spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Tigers. Last year for Detroit, he hit .267/.296/.411 with 27 doubles and 18 home runs over 574 at-bats. He spent most of his time as the team's designated hitter, as his defense is questionable.

In addition to Young, Salisbury notes that the Phillies have also considered free agent Scott Hairston as well as Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells.
