Red Sox rumors: Athletics' Brandon Moss a fit for Boston?

The Boston Red Sox continue to be in the market for a backup first baseman and outfielder, and Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe believes Brandon Moss of the Oakland Athletics represents "the ideal guy." There's just one problem; A's general manager Billy Beane isn't interested in trading Moss, according to Cafardo.

After acknowledging Beane isn't actively shopping Moss, he goes on to indicate that the outfielder/first baseman could likely be had if the offered price is right. This makes sense, as Moss is 29 years old and has spent a majority of his career as a reserve player.

Moss fits the bill of the left-handed hitter Boston is seeking to share time with Jonny Gomes in the outfield and Mike Napoli at first base. He performed extremely well at the plate last season, his first with the A's. Over 265 at-bats, Moss hit .291/.358/.596 with 18 doubles and 21 home runs while manning first base and both corner outfield positions.
