Minor dealings: Canzler, Dickerson, Mitchell, Whiteside

A few minor transactions that took place over the weekend that you may have missed:

• The New York Yankees claimed infielder/outfielder Russ Canzler off of waivers (his third time on the waiver wire this winter) from the Cleveland Indians, who had DFA-ed him to make room for right-hander Brett Myers. The 26-year-old gives the Bronx Bombers another right-handed hitting outfielder option to compete with their other recent acquisition, Matt Diaz.
• The Yankees designated outfielder Chris Dickerson for assignment to make room for Canzler. The left-handed hitting Dickerson found himself as the fourth outfielder in an outfield already full of lefties, making him expendable.
• The Seattle Mariners outrighted right-hander D.J. Mitchell to Triple-A after he cleared waivers. He was DFA-ed last week to make room on the roster for new outfielder Raul Ibanez.
• The Texas Rangers outrighted catcher Eli Whiteside to Triple-A to make room on their 40-man roster for new signing Jason Frasor. Whiteside had been penciled in as the Rangers' back-up catcher, but dropped back to third-string when the club inked A.J. Pierzynski.
