Phillies rumors: Scott Hairston, Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells

The Phillies continue to monitor the market for right-handed-hitting outfielders.

It was reported yesterday that the Philadelphia Phillies could be done making moves this winter and enter the 2013 season set to fill out their outfield with their current crop of in-house options. While that could ultimately wind up being the case, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Phillies continue to look for a right-handed-hitting outfielder, and he lists the candidates as free agent Scott Hairston, Chicago CubsAlfonso Soriano and Los Angeles AngelsVernon Wells:

Most of the heavy lifting is done, but the Phils continue to look for a right-handed hitting outfielder.

Rosenthal notes that the Phillies and manager Charlie Manuel like up-and-coming outfielder/first baseman Darin Ruf, adding that the club has "discussed going with platoons in both left and right, incorporating Dominic Brown, John Mayberry and possibly Laynce Nix."

Still, Philadelphia continues to "look at all options," according to Rosenthal. This would include the free agent Hairston along with Wells and Soriano, who would have to be acquired via trade.

The trio has long been tied to the Phillies, but money figures to be holding up any potential deals. Hairston is seeking $8 million over two years, while the Cubs and Angels would likely expect the Phillies to pick up some of the remaining tab on Soriano and Wells to take them off their hands.
