The Los Angeles Angels have been a disappointment since making several of the biggest splashes in recent memory on the free agent market. The team has struggled with inconsistency, and a large part of that has been their rotation behind Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson.
The Angels want pitching, and sources say they've indicated a willingness to other teams to trade Peter Bourjos or/and Mark Trumbo to get it.— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) October 29, 2013
LA doesn't have much in the way of covetable prospects -- especially after trading Jean Segura for a few months of Zack Greinke. So they may be forced to use Mark Trumbo and/or Peter Bourjos as trade bait.
Angels GM Jerry Dipoto was recently retained by the club, despite mediocre results from huge investments in Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton.
Dipoto attempted to improve his rotation last winter by trading Kendrys Morales to the Mariners for left-hander Jason Vargas. He managed an ERA just over 4.00 in 150 innings this season.
The Angels will be looking for something more significant than that in return for Trumbo and/or Bourjos.
Trumbo has been a solid source of power for the Angels since his first full season in 2011, with 95 homers and a .219 ISO power mark that puts him among the league's most prominent sluggers.
Bourjos has struggled to stay on the field consistently in his time with the Angels, but when he is out there, he's one of the best outfielders in baseball. He has holes in his offensive approach, but his potential for improvement -- and most importantly his defense -- make him a positive overall impact.
The Halos will likely balk at any move that doesn't improve their rotation considerably.
