The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed right-hander Alex Sanabia off waivers from the Miami Marlins, according to a team announcement. Sanabia is the second Marlin to be claimed off waivers on Friday, joining new Angel Josh Wall.

Sanabia, 25, posted a 3-7 record and 4.88 ERA in ten starts with the Marlins to begin the season before he was placed on the disabled list with a season-ending groin injury. In 28 games (24 starts) over three seasons with the Marlins, the former 32nd round pick is 8-10 with a 4.15 ERA, 5.6 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 138.2 innings of work. He is not yet arbitration-eligible, and will likely compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation in spring training next season. If he is unable to crack the rotation, he will head to Triple-A Reno and provide valuable starting depth in case of injuries at the major league level.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Sanabia, the Diamondbacks recently outrighted right-hander Matt Langwell and outfielder Keon Broxton to the minor leagues.
