After being outrighted by the White Sox earlier this week, right-handed pitcher Brian Omogrosso has elected free agency rather than remain in Chicago's organization, our own Chris Cotillo has learned.

Omogrosso, who was taken in the 6th round of the 2006 amateur draft by the White Sox, has pitched in 29 games for Chicago over the past two seasons. After recording a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings in 2012, Omogrosso struggled in 2013, allowing 17 runs in just over 16 innings. He last pitched in the big leagues on June 29th, when he allowed 9 runs against the Cleveland Indians. The White Sox placed Omogrosso on the disabled list with elbow problems on July 10th, and on August 6th, he underwent season-ending elbow surgery.

In 407 career minor league innings, Omogrosso has put up a 3.94 ERA with 377 strikeouts. The 29 year old Pennsylvania native was at his best in 2011 when he recorded a 3.03 ERA over 65 innings with the Double-A Birmingham Barons and Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
