As part of their search for offense this offseason, the Baltimore Orioles are expected to make a strong push for first baseman Mike Napoli, according to Jen Royle of Boston Herald Radio.
Royle also notes that Napoli would love to stay in Boston, where he has become a fan favorite after winning a World Series championship in his first season with the team.
The 32-year old received a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Red Sox on Monday, and is expected to consider accepting that deal to capitalize on its high average annual value.
If he declines the offer, he will likely continue to negotiate with the Red Sox in an effort to sign a two or three-year deal that would allow him to return to Boston.
In addition, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com notes that the Mariners, who pursued Napoli last offseason, could make another run at him this winter. The team is known to be prioritizing offense, and Napoli's power numbers from 2013 make him a potential fit for Seattle.
In 139 games with the Red Sox on the season, Napoli hit .259 with 23 HR and 92 RBI while proving that his hip disorder, avacular necrosis, will not affect his play. As one of the top free agent first baseman available this winter, Napoli is expected to draw significant interest from multiple teams looking to sign him to a multi-year deal.
