Grant Balfour rumors: 4 teams interested in former-Athletics closer

After losing his deal with the Orioles over medical concerns, Balfour has other suitors to fall back on.

Free agent closer Grant Balfour says that four teams are interested in his services and he has one offer on the table already, reports Jim Duquette of MLB Radio Network.

Balfour had agreed to a two year deal with the Orioles worth $15 million, but that deal was scrapped when Baltimore discovered issues with his surgically repaired right shoulder during the physical and decided to move on and pursue former-Rays closer Fernando Rodney instead.

The 35-year-old Balfour posted a 2.53 ERA in 199 1/2 innings over the previous three seasons as a member of the Oakland Athletics. He became Athletics' closer during the 2012 season and saved just under 93 percent of oppertunities given to him over the last two years in that role. He posted his highest K/9 rate since 2008 last season, striking out 10.3 per nine in 62 2/3 innings work.

The Yankees, Mariners, White Sox and Rays could all be among the team's still in on the Australian hurler, according to Duquette and he also sees the Indians as a fit now that they have gotten Drew Stubbs off their books.
