Mets' Mejia will report late due to visa issues

Jenrry Mejia will report late to Mets Spring Training due to visa issues.

Mets pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia will be reporting late to Spring Training because of issues with his visa, announces the Mets' official Twitter account.

Mejia, 23, is coming off Tommy John Surgery in 2011 and pitched out of the bullpen for the majority of the season in Triple-A Buffalo.

In 16 brief innings at the Major League level for the Mets last year, Mejia pitched his way to an ERA of 5.63. He pitched in 5 games, 3 of which were starts.

The Mets are facing a tough decision as to whether or not to place Mejia in the rotation. Many think he will end up in the bullpen.

There is a tint of irony in all of this, as last season Mets manager Terry Collins was angry at shortstop Ruben Tejada for not reporting early to Spring Training due to visa issues. This case is different as Mejia is a pitcher and not the team's shortstop.
