The Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers are "still in the mix" for free agent infielder Ryan Theriot, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Rosenthal notes that the biggest factor for Theriot on where he'll sign this offseason is playing time. He could "get squeezed" if he signs with the Rangers or Indians, according to Rosenthal. Both teams have been tied to Theriot throughout the winter, as each is attempting to improve its infield depth.
Theriot spent last season with the San Francisco Giants. The 33-year-old hit .270/.316/.321 with 16 doubles, one triple and 13 stolen bases in 18 attempts over 352 at-bats. He started 81 games at second base for the Giants last season, but he has also played shortstop and third base as well as each corner outfield position during his career.
Theriot has played for four teams in the past three seasons. Over eight seasons at the major league level, Theriot has hit .281/.341/.350.
Beyond the Rangers and Indians, the Giants and Philadelphia Phillies have been tied to Theriot this offseason.
