Kyle Lohse rumors: Phillies, Brewers, Rangers

Scott Boras spoke out over the weekend about his two biggest names still roaming the open market: Kyle Lohse and Jose Valverde. While the uber-agent gives every indication of being optimistic about his clients, you can bet there's a modicum of uncertainty creeping in -- especially about Lohse.

While there are indications that Valverde is still drawing some level of interest from the Mets, there don't appear to be any teams in active pursuit of Lohse.

No one seems to have any indication of where Lohse will end up, but there does appear to be a growing consensus about where he won't be playing in 2013. The Cardinals, Indians, and Nationals are already out of the mix, and Phillies GM Ruben Amaro closed the book on Lohse yesterday, stating that the club's plan is to go forward with what they have, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.

We learned last week that Boras tried to sell Lohse on the Angels but didn't had any luck there. Well, word has it he tried his hand at the Milwaukee Brewers as well, per Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, and while the club's "ears are always open," there is no active discussion about Lohse.

Jim Bowden of ESPN believes that the Brewers are still one of Lohse's two most likely landing spots -- along with the Texas Rangers -- but that his price would have to drop considerably for either to take a chance on him. The Brewers would have to surrender the 17th pick in this year's draft to sign the right-hander, while the Rangers would give up the 25th.
