Mets rumors: John Buck not long for New York?

Catcher John Buck was traded twice this offseason, and Adam Rubin of ESPN New York doesn't think the veteran backstop should get too comfortable with the New York Mets just yet. Rubin believes the Mets could trade Buck this season to make way for top catching prospect Travis D'Arnaud.

Buck was a casualty of the Miami Marlins great winter fire sale, as he was shipped to the Blue Jays along with Emilio Bonifacio, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson and Jose Reyes. He wouldn't remain with Toronto long, however, as he was dealt less than a month later to the Mets as part of the R.A. Dickey trade. New York acquired D'Arnaud, who's considered one of the game's top prospects and Buck's eventual replacement, in the same trade.

Buck was a former top prospect in his own right in the Houston Astros system. The Kansas City Royals acquired him as part of the Carlos Beltran deal and immediately inserted him into their regular lineup. He hit .235/.298/.407 over six seasons with the Royals.

Buck would eventually sign a three-year, $18 million contract with the Marlins prior to the 2011 season after a pair of strong campaigns with the Royals and Blue Jays. Unfortunately for Buck and the Marlins, he hit only .213/.308/.358 over two seasons in Miami.

Over nine seasons in the majors, the 32-year-old Buck owns a career batting line of .235/.303/.405.
