Braves rumors: Atlanta not interested in Kyle Lohse

The Braves are not interested in signing free agent Kyle Lohse.

Free agent Kyle Lohse still hasn't found his next contract, and it's unlikely to come from the Atlanta Braves, according to David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In responding to a question on Twitter asking if Atlanta has any interest in Lohse, O'Brien simply answered no.

That seems to be the response most teams are giving when it comes to Lohse this offseason. No, we're not going to give you and your agent a lucrative multi-year contract. No, we're not interested in surrendering a draft pick in order to sign you.

The Braves will be without Brandon Beachy for the start of the season, but they still have a projected rotation that includes Tim Hudson, Kris Medlen, Paul Maholm and Mike Minor. Top young arm Julio Teheran, not Lohse, is projected to occupy the final spot.

March is approaching and Lohse still hasn't found his next team. He's been connected to several, including the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians and even his former club, the St. Louis Cardinals. However, the right-hander's market has still failed to develop to the point where an agreement appears imminent.

Lohse was solid for the Cardinals last season, posting a 2.86 ERA over 33 starts. The 34-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.45 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.19, while he managed a 3.90 ERA in the past five years with St. Louis.
