Rangers rumors: Texas 'most motivated' to sign Kyle Lohse

The Texas Rangers "probably have the best shot at obtaining" Kyle Lohse.

It remains unclear where free agent Kyle Lohse will ultimately sign this spring, but one American League general manager tells Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe that the Texas Rangers "probably have the best shot at obtaining" the right-hander.

The unnamed GM notes that the Rangers "missed out on a couple of guys" this offseason, and they "seem to be the most motivated to get a deal done with him."

Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, R.A. Dickey, Josh Johnson and James Shields would fall into the category of ‘a couple of guys' the Rangers missed out on this winter. Despite the fact that they have the payroll flexibility to do so, Texas continues to say they aren't interested in adding a starting pitcher, must less one that carries a hefty price tag and draft pick compensation.

Still, the club is hoping to reclaim the title of American League West champions this fall, and the back-end of their current rotation carries question marks.

The Rangers currently have a starting staff that includes Derek Holland, Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando. Several young arms, including Martin Perez, Justin Grimm and Robbie Ross are currently competing for the role of No. 5 starter. All are unproven, and Lohse could provide the team with more of a sure bet as they are poised to enter a tough competition against the rest of the West.
