Diamondbacks, Gerardo Parra avoid arbitration

The Arizona Diamondbacks have avoided arbitration with outfielder Gerardo Parra, reaching a one-year contract with the 25-year-old, the team has announced. The agreement is worth $2.35 million, according to Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona:

Parra hit .292/.357/.427 with 36 extra-base hits and earned a Gold Glove Award during the 2011 season, but the signing of veteran outfielder Jason Kubel moved him into a reserve role for Arizona. He went on to hit .273/.335/.392 with 21 doubles, seven home runs and 15 stolen bases in 24 attempts last season while manning all three outfield positions.

Considering Kubel and offseason acquisition Cody Ross are slated for the corners, Parra could be Arizona's Opening Day center fielder. However, it's more likely that top prospect Adam Eaton claims that title, considering what he showed at the end of last season. That would cause Parra to slide back into the reserve role he filled last season.

Following their agreement with Parra, the Diamondbacks have no unsigned arbitration-eligible players remaining.
