The Cardinals are not interested in bringing back Kyle Lohse to replace Chris Carpenter.

The Cardinals are not interested in bringing back Kyle Lohse to replace the newly-injured Chris Carpenter, reports Joe Strauss of the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

The team made Lohse a qualifying-offer that he turned down at the beginning of the offseason, but he has failed to receive much interest from other teams.

Lohse has said much about the new compensation system, which he feels may be unfair to players such as himself. He was expecting to get a large payday this offseason and obviously that has not happened.

The Cardinals have considerable depth at the starting pitching spot, including top prospects Shelby Miller and Trevor Rosenthal. They also could slide Joe Kelly, another young pitcher, into that spot in the rotation to help fill the void. They should have a heated competition in Spring Training to decide who gets that spot.

Lohse, 34, pitched 211 innings for the Cardinals last season, posting an ERA of 2,86.
