The San Diego Padres have claimed right-handed reliever Fautino De Los Santos off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the Brewers.

De Los Santos was removed from the Brewers' 40-man roster to make room Alex Gonzalez, whose deal with Milwaukee became official today.

De Los Santos was once a top prospect in the Chicago White Sox minor league system. Chicago traded him to the Oakland Athletics along with Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney in exchange for Nick Swisher prior to the 2008 season.

After spending the first part of 2012 with the Athletics, De Los Santos was again traded, this time to the Brewers, in exchange for veteran catcher George Kottaras. The 26-year-old appeared in six games for the A's, allowing two runs on seven hits over three innings. Over 36 1/3 innings in the majors, De Los Santos owns a career ERA of 4.21 with a 2.30 strikeout-to-walk ratio (SO/BB).

De Los Santos spent a majority of the 2012 season with the minor league affiliates of the A's and Brewers. Over 49 2/3 combined innings, the right-hander posted a 5.80 ERA with a 3 SO/BB.
