Todd Helton arrested on suspicion of DUI

Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton was arrested near Thornton, Colorado for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Blair Shiff of 9NEWS.

The police were called when a witness saw Helton's black Ford F-150 truck driving "erratically," according to Shiff. The truck was later pulled over into a Conoco gas station and Helton was identified as the driver.

After being taken into custody, Helton was booked and processed through Thornton Police. He was then released to a "responsible party," as the Adams County District Attorney will look into filing formal charges.

The Rockies and Helton have both released statements regarding the situation. Colorado is "extremely disappointed," while Helton admits to having "exercised poor judgment." The 39-year-old is "embarrassed" by his actions, taking full responsibility while asking for forgiveness.

Last season for the Rockies, Helton hit .238/.343/.400 with 16 doubles and seven home runs over 283 plate appearances. He's spent all 16 years of his major league career with Colorado, posting a career batting line of .320/.419/.545.
